Animal Success Stories
As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek! Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes. We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families. If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story! Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Clover
Hi! The holidays were hectic, esp. with a new "baby" in the house, but I have to tell you that we are in love with Clover and hope she feels the same way about us ( I think she does).
She is a beautiful girl. Her jet black coat is beginning to show signs of freckles and patterning. Her weight has doubled and she is showing some shapely long legs. She has visited the veterinarian 2x and was able to meet her mom (!), Macey at one of the appointments.
She adapted well to her crate/home and to our older catahoula. They are pretty good buddies now, except when food is concerned :), then Ali can be a little cranky. They play "catahoula games" and it's been great to see our older dog back in action keeping up with Clover. Clover also enjoys-- LOVES--running through her tunnel, and over it! And toys! Lots of toys!
House-training has been successful for the most part. Clover rings a bell to go out when she feels the "urge," and has been pretty consistent. Her vocabulary is growing: she understands "sit," "down," "speak," "crate," "leave it," "drop it," "paw," (and "other paw,") and "come!"
Her appetite and her energy level are always in high gear, and she often reminds me of the cartoon character, "Tasmanian Devil," because she is always in motion, in mischief, or in the middle of some predicament! I had forgotten how much work it is to have a puppy in the house. But, just last night (!) she realized that she had grown just enough to climb onto the sofa, cuddle with me, and fall asleep in my lap. Ahh, the sweet smell of puppy/love.
Thank you, A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens, and your veterinarians and volunteers who make it possible for these puppies and their moms to live-- safe, valued and loved; and for giving to us, the adoptive parents, a million smiles and out-loud laughs that would never have been if not for these loving and loveable clowns.

Hi Kathy,
Glad to tell you that "Charlie" (we changed his name. My husband couldn't
remember it) is a very happy, cheerful, friendly dog. He loves to play. He
will come up to me and bring a toy or piece of cowhide for me to grab.
Sometimes when I am pulling on whatever he has, I will try to slyly grab one
of his front paws. It's fun to watch his eyes trying to hold onto the toy
and then he quickly pulls that paw under him. It's so funny to watch he as
he tries to keep one and then the other paw out of my reach. He loves to
walk. My husband does that most of the time. I comb his every morning
before his walk and he is so good, just waiting for me to finish. Lets me
check his ears (they were infected). Yes, we love him and have to find a
way to stop his barking when we go out for dinner or to friends. He no
longer leaves a load on the rug or floor, so that's good. Oh, I must tell
you. I baked goodies for those residents here in the building during the
holidays and had 6 muffins cooling on the kitchen table while I delivered
some. Lo and behold, when I came back he was enjoying one of the muffins on
the floor. So of course I took them off the table and put them up on the
counter. Well, later in the day when I had two loaves of banana bread
cooling in their tins also on the table... Guess once wasn't enough, I
hadn't learned my lesson When I got back from delivering banana bread to
others, I found Charlie just FINISHING UP and ENTIRE loaf. Why my husband
didn't hear the pan hit the floor, I don't know. But Charlie enjoyed the
WHOLE LOAF and never got sick or had diarrhea. He must have a stomach of
iron. We have taken pictures but need our daughter's help to get them on
the computer. Charlie is so cute. Has those big brown eyes that are
expressive. He has also begun to "talk" to us when he wants something, be
it food, going out or let's play.
If I forget to update you, please email me back. Maybe I'll have some
pictures by then.
