Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Millie
Millie

Just a note to let you know that Katie [fka Mille] is doing very well. She is very well-behaved and, ;little by little, coming out of her shell. It became obvious that she had a negative set of experiences that she associated with her name, so it was changed to Katie to keep the ending sound, but changing the initial sound, hoping that it might help in the transaction. After doing so she immediately became more receptive to ‘conversation’, direction, etc. She is beginning to take food/treats out of my hand, which is a sign of significant growth since she has been very fearful around food, particularly when it brings her into arm’s length. It was unfortunate to find in the early days that she would hesitate retrieving a treat out of my hand, approaching in a crouching stance, then stopping about three feet out. At that point she would switch her attention from the hand with the treat to my other hand, as if she had previously been baited in with food only to suffer unwanted consequences. So, improvements in behavior around food is a very positive outcome, small promising consistent steps As with anyone, she responds well to patience and encouragement. Nina, her ‘sister’ is engaging with her more than she had with other dogs, actually being proactively playful, at times. Though they each have their own beds, they share the larger bed [Nina’s] at this point and Nina doesn’t mind. Katie loves the dog door, comes in and out of the house on a whim or to chase down a scent or a sound. This pack is happy and healthy! Janice, Nina & Katie Marie

Taffy
Taffy

We are THRILLED with Taffy. We call her McKenzie Olive Grace Sheffler. Really we call her McKenzie Olive or McNugget or McDougal. She is sweet. Very smart and learns very quickly. She has even learned to ring a bell on the door to go outside to do her business. She loves to play with toys and play tug with her her new 14 yr old lab sister Maddie. She is growing like crazy and I can't wait to see what she is going to look like as an adult.

Sulley

We adopted Sulley, now Toby, on May 15 (we also adopted Vaughn, now Buddy, a few months earlier) and we love our boys! Toby is 3 months old and 30 lbs...we got ourselves some big boys! They are such good puppies and love playing together! Toby had some accidents at first but is learning quick with his big brother's help. Buddy and Toby are so smart, they both know how to sit, paw, lay down, and roll over! Buddy loves his family and the newest addition to the family, Toby. We are so happy with our two happy, healthy boys from A Second Chance Rescue.

Fawn

Hi Kathy,
Fawn and Finn (now Zoie and Hudson) are doing great! We couldn't be happier and I think they feel the same way. Here are some pictures we have taken of them over the last month. As you can see, they are loving members of our family and we feel very lucky to have adopted them.
Thanks again!
