Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Barnes

Barnes (I call him Barney) is doing great. He and my cat love to play together. At first he ran every time when I reached out to touch him. Now he lets me pet him 2/3 of the time. In the last week, he has come up on the couch and laid down about a foot from me and let me pet him. He is getting closer and closer. Soon I hope he will be in my lap. He has a BIG appetite and likes to push my cat, Sammee, out of the way when he's eating and eat his too. He had no manners at all when I brought him home. He had no idea what "no" meant. He knows now. He is also just getting used to hearing his name, and looks at me when I say it. I sent some pictures to Deven, but I will send those and a few more for you all to see. He is a joy, not destructive at all, quiet as can be.....a model cat. (...but you can see by the last two pictures, that he is part frog!)

Blizzard
Blizzard

Hi Kathy, Blizzard is now Ellie Mae Brindle Butt ~ BB for short. She is still battling hookworm but with the help of our vet we are gaining an upper hand. She loves her two sisters and they mostly love her back (when she's not acting too puppy crazy!) She loves to hang out in our bamboo garden and chew on sticks, chase her sisters around the yard and just act goofy! Despite our rough start with the tape worms and hookworms we couldnt be happier, she has been a great addition to our little family. Training has been a breeze with her, she is very smart, she sits and waits for her food to be put down and gives me a kiss before she eats, (she learned that watching Luna) who I taught to do the same thing. She even comes when she's called (unlike Luna!) :o) Im so happy that A Second Chance was able to rescue her from death row, and that we were looking at the right time! Thank you for all the wonderful work you do! I have attached a few pictures for you. Lisa is on my friends list on facebook and gets all of my BB updates! Thanks for checking in on BB! Brooklyn
Brooklyn

Brooklyn has adjusted beautifully to our home. We did change her name to Daisy which did not seem to bother her either. We already had a 7-year-old Boston Terrier and a 14-year-old chihuahua when we adopted Daisy. She gets along beautifully with both dogs, but especially the Boston. They are both very playful and have fun playing together. An added note, we also appreicate Lauren Mitchell, Daisy's (Brooklyn's) foster. She was very patient and encouraging when working with us, which led directly to the success of the whole process for us. We're very happy with the addition of Daisy to our household.

Brandi
Brandi

Hi Kathy, Brandi is doing well, and has been to see the vet twice for her shots and follow-up appointment. Socially, she is doing well most of the time, but sometimes she gets a little wild and climbs the furnature and walls, and she claws and bites us when she plays. So I'm not sure if we doing something wrong with her, or do we need to "train" this behavior out of her with time-outs, etc. She's definitely got a wild streak. Is this a phase that young cats go through?

Brandi

Well Lady, formally known as Brandi, is doing very well in her new home. Shes usually well behaved but does turn into a puppy sometimes. Shes also making new friends with dogs in the neighborhood and the local dog park. Shes also getting bigger and bigger. When we got her she was around 13lbs and shes now over 20. We are continually training her and she knows her name and "No." She also will sit when told and she has learned to wait for her food to be served before she attacks the bowl. Potty training is also going very well. Accidents are very rare now unless we aren't paying attention to the signs. We are soo happy we decided to make the commitment to a new dog and look forward to many years of love and fun. Thank you for everything!!! Nick and Erin. --
