Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Cain

Dude (aka Cain) Hello, We are in love with the new addition to our family. We were little unsure of bringing him home when we did because our older dog, Player, had become really sick. We felt such an attachment immediately, we could pass him up. When we got him home we knew we had made the right decision, only wished we could have done it sooner. He was really loving to Player in his final days. Unfortunately he passed within the first week of bringing him home. The cancer had spread all over his liver and taken him quickly. We didn't even get the biopsy results back until the day he passed. It was such a sad time for us, but Dude has brought us joy and love through this hard time. We are thankful for the time we were able to have them together. Cain was not taking to his name so we started calling him Dude. He has been the perfect little dude, very well mannered minus the typical puppy learning curve. He had lots of potty issues through the first week, and we were very concerned that there was something wrong. We found out that he had round worms and coccidiosis, but with the help from Dr Fox he is clear and healthy now. He is now 10lbs, as of his last vet visit a week ago, and still growing. He is a very smart and loving dog, and crate training has help tremendously with the potty training. The first few weeks he was unable to be around other dogs so we just started puppy playtime classes this past week. He is a star pupil, except for when it comes to loose leash walking (but we are working diligently on correcting that). He has been great around the other dogs, in class and at the beach, and is adored by us and every one he meets. We would love to find another brother or sister rescue. He does so well when we take him over to friend's houses to play with their dogs, and is so sad when we leave. It breaks our hearts. We have decided to get him a companion, but we need to find the right fit. Our thought is to find an older rescue (1-2yrs) to learn and grow with him. Have you heard from the other families that adopted his siblings? We would enjoy taking him on an outing to visit with them, or foster/adopt them if it didn't work out. Please let us know. Thank you very much for all that you do to help these puppies find good homes! With much gratitude, Michele & Chris Cowling

Cow-girl

And Happy Friday from Cleo and C.C. (formerly known as Cow Girl). My partner took some pictures of C.C.'s new bed....she is loving it and we ADORE her. She stops people traffic wherever she goes. She has met all of her people family and a few canine and feline cousins. We went to see Dr. Fox at the RBAH....what a special place full of loving and wonderful people!!! I haved decided to have C.C. go there for her care. By the way, C.C. is her nickname -- her full name is Cafe Con Leche. We will be out to the Chili Cook-Off in April. My publicist has been tweeting about how wonderful A Second Chance Rescue is and I have directed 5 people to your site to fill out adoption papers. C.C. is an excellent ambassador for Second Chance Rescue. We are committed as a family to promote and assist you all as much as we can. Thank you and everyone else -- an especially C.C.'s mom -- for blessing us with PURE JOY -- her name is C.C. Much Respect & Love, Cleo & LouAnn & C.C.

Crimson
Crimson

Kathy, I am writing this as a follow up on Crimson (now Vespa). She is doing great! She is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever known. She is great with other dogs and cats and she is great with kids. Her temperament is so good that we decided to begin training her to be a service dog for those with PTSD. She is learning basic obedience very quickly and she loves exploring the world unrestricted as a service dog. When she is not in training she is snuggling with us. She just loves to sleep and snuggle. We also get her out quite a bit to run in the park... being a Italian Greyhound mix, that girl can move! So thank you for saving her life! She is a wonderful little girl and we are thrilled to have her. Sincerely, Brent Sudeck and Denise Fraile

Chief
Chief

Hey Second Chance Family, Just wanted to let you know that all is well with Chief. He has adjusted really well to his new home and family. He is fully house trained and has had no accidents. He is loved so much and is very spoiled. He loves playing with our son Shane, and follows Shane everywhere, he even sleeps with Shane. Every morning when Shane gets up from school chief jumps all over Shane to wake him up and licks him all over. lol he loves playing out in the yard with us and loves playing ball. My sister just adopted a puppy from you guys on Saturday (Charlie Brown) the two pups had a great time playing together on Super bowl Sunday and got along very well, Chief can't wait for his next play date with Charlie Brown. chief loves going on car rides and is rarely left home alone. With our different schedules he is never home alone unless we have to go to the grocery store, and usually when that happens he goes in the Shane's bedroom and sits right by the guinea pigs cage till we get home. he loves those guinea pigs a lot. I will send pics to your facebook page as soon as I load them to the computer. Thanks for everything!

Chiqui
Chiqui

Kathy, Hi! I wanted to give you an update on Chiqui, who my son renamed Tiffany - She learned her new name quickly and has learned "sit", she apparently already knew "wait". She has adapted well so far and sleeps with my son each night. She loves to torment our 108 lb. lab (sTiffany is 8 lbs, 8 oz) by charging at him to get him to play, and he usually follows through for her. She is still a bit weary of other dogs, getting nippy if she does not know them and they sniff at her face but that has not stopped her from having a boyfriend though, a 14 lb. Yorkshire Terrier that lives three houses down! So far she has been a loving, pleasant addition to our family. Thank You, Jody
