Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Hooch
Hooch

Hi Kathy, From the minute we got Hooch home it was as if he knew he belonged there. His comfort level is extreemly high. I can tell, as he is often found sleeping on his back. Dogs that do not feel confident in their surroundings usually do not do this. When I wake up in the mornings he is always in my bed, usually curled up under my right arm, however on occassion I l.ocate him completely under the covers. He has a great relationship with the cat and on occassion we will observe him laying on the floor with the cat licking (cleaning) him. He has given additional youth to our 6 year old German Shepard, they run around our fenced in back yard like Greyhounds. He is gentle when taking treats from your hands and is not concerned when anybody is near him while he is eating. He socializes well when around children. He is well behaved, we have taken him to resturants that have outdoor areas to eat. He justs lays down at your feet while you eat and does not beg or pull on his leash. He has reciently found out that he can bark. When he does this, he does it with purpose and confidence. An example of this was while we were walking him in the middle of the street very late one night (I dont allow him to walk on other peoples yards incase they don't spray and might have ticks and fleas), he started barking like he wanted to bite someone, pulling at his leash. We couldn't figure out why his behavior just changed. It was dark and we could not see any danger we were passing a construction site. All of a sudden a male on his 20's got up and and started running to the rear of the construction site and went over the rear fence. It was a pleasure to see that he was instinnctively protective at such a young age. I am glad that we had the opportunity to adopt him and that he adopted us. Thank you for checking up on him. Sincerly, Cliff
