Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Indira
Indira

Kathy, My husband, Bryce and I are in love with Indira, and I think the feeling is mutual for her, too. We have chosen to keep her name since she is older. As you asked, here is the good and the bad that we've experienced. Indira is a soft, fluffy little girl with a lot of love to offer. She is very affectionate and can always be found in the same room we are in. Indira gets a lot of attention from strangers due to her stripes and spots coat. Others comment on how unique it is. She came to us fully housebroken and to date has not had an accident in the house. We were looking for an adult dog for this reason. Also an adult was preferred to cut down on any chewing. "Indi", as we sometimes refer to her, doesn't chew on anything but her chew toys. She even is gentle on her plush toys! She doesn't bark except when someone is knocking on our door or ringing the bell. This isn't a behavior we are unhappy about. Indi has shown great restraint with our two cats. I can see her first instinct is to chase, but all parties have come to a "we'll leave you alone if you leave us alone" agreement. She has also learned many commands such as come, sit, stay, lay down, shake, and we are working on heal still. Since she came to us with zero leash manners, she has improved dramatically. Indira loves belly rubs, car rides, fetch, and long hikes at Jonathan Dickinson Park. This has all been without hitting, choking, or electrocuting our baby. If anyone tells me their dog can't learn without these tools I know they are lying. We have trained a 4 year old rescue in a little under two months. It can be done!
